Avengers: To be Continued… or Not?

Joseph Chigbrow, Reporter

Since the release of Iron Man in 2008, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (also known as the MCU) has exploded in popularity, having largely dominated the global box office. Beginning with one hero in Iron Man, Marvel has now expanded to lesser known characters, while still keeping close to the comics. The MCU now contains 20 movies that are interconnected, and at least three more will be featured here in 2019. Out of the new films Spider-Man: Far From Home, Captain Marvel, and Avengers: EndGame, EndGame definitely has the most attention from the public.

After the heartbreaking destruction and death of Avengers: Infinity War, the conclusion to the two part Avengers series has been anxiously awaited. Recently the first teaser trailer for EndGame was released to the public, and it shook the fans to their cores. Every tiny detail was examined by the most thorough of fans, and it’s fair to say that theories and ideas are running rampant throughout the fanbase.

Avid Marvel fan senior Nicholas Richter believes that Thanos (the main antagonist) will eventually come to realize the pain that he caused the universe while trying to save it, and reverse his snap to bring the dead Avengers back. A certainly understandable theory, it is not unlike many stories to flip the script on the antagonist.

However, Senior Mason Standal has a different idea. He theorizes that Captain Marvel will be the only close match up for the all powerful Thanos, and that all of the original Avengers we fell in love with, will bite the dust. It’s a much darker theory, but certainly possible given the state of Infinity War.

Of course, this is a huge turning point for the Avengers and Marvel Studios. As the next Avengers title is yet to even be  confirmed, many of the actors’ contracts are coming to the end. Richter has faith that Marvel will not throw out their most famed super team quite yet.“Disney’s going to milk this cash cow…” as  he puts it. But, on the opposite end, Standal disagrees. To him, he sees this to be the end of the Avengers and that “Marvel will use one of their other super teams for big team-up movies…”. This idea from Standal is certainly backed up by his previous theory and a lot of the Marvel comics, but undoubtedly anything could happen.

In reality, we can theorize and obsess as much as we want over the coming movie. But if there’s anything we know about Marvel Studios, they consistently surprise us and produce killer movies. Marvel’s Avengers EndGame is sure to be the turning point of the entire MCU, no matter which way it goes. The excitement, energy and quality of every other Marvel movie are sure to be bested by the three hour beast that EndGame will become. Be sure to catch it in theaters starting at April 26, 2019.
