Being praised as one of the best music festivals of the northwest, and certainly the best in Idaho, Treefort is a annual event in the Boise community, and something our city takes a lot of pride in. This could be due to the Treefort organizers’ yearly effort and passion, or perhaps the aforementioned community surrounding the event, or perhaps just the festivals proximity to ski mountains such as Bogus Basin and Brundage.

Now these are all well and good, but the only reason a music festival should ever be significant is the music. Thankfully, Treefort always delivers on that front, with a great lineup every year. The 2019 lineup, though, should be quite exceptional. Quite a few local groups will make an appearance, as well as several favorites from years past. And And And is one of those favorites. They’re a band from Portland, Oregon, and along with a variety of local bands, they should seriously amp up the festival grounds with an excellent performance.

And And And is a band intent on delivering a philosophical stance on both the good vibes and bad vibes of the world, specifically inciting thoughts about the duality of man. Since their start in 2009, the band has held onto this theme of duality, addressing it very specifically in their latest release, “Idiot”.

The band has dynamic influences, with some of their members growing up with ‘Pink Floyd’ and ‘YES’, and others growing up listening to bands such as ‘The Clash’ and ‘Fugazi’.

These influences may oppose each other somewhat, but that just adds to the band’s sound. Again, this duality and contradictory nature is what they’re going for, and it really fits. Their sound is fairly fleshed out, something between dad rock, indie-alternative and anti- establishment faced punk rock. These three genres and their differences again relate to the concept of contradiction and duality that is found in their music. The Northwestern sound of And And And meshes well with the makeup of Treefort, where legends and locals of Boise come together. In some cases those two titles are interchangeable, i.e., Built to Spill, Treepeople, and Magic Sword. This adhesiveness is the magic of Treefort.

It’s somewhat of a blessing that Boise has such an extraordinary music festival, and we should take advantage of that. I encourage anybody and everybody to get outside and survive the potentially quite cold weekend in order to listen to good music.

And And And is a band that Treefort deserves to have on it’s lineup, and it’s great that they can continue to make it to Boise each year. So, please, pick up their record, stream their music wherever you can, and give them some support. Most importantly though, keep on listening.
