Best Lunches at Boise High

Dina Hughes, Reporter

Boise High sits in a prime location for the best food around Boise, with only 40 minutes for lunch, it can be a tough task to get food in time and still make it to class.

I went on a mission to find the best options for food in the  short amount of time we have. I compiled a list of the best lunch spots around Boise High, and there’s sure to be something for everyone on this list.

The Boise Co-Op is the perfect spot for a big meal or just a snack. It is only three blocks away from Boise High. They have a fridge filled with pastas, salads, burritos, and more. There’s a case loaded with cookies and pastries, and an assortment of drinks that I’ve never seen matched in diversity.

There are gluten free and vegan options, but they are few and far between. The food, unless already packaged, doesn’t state if there is gluten or dairy products in it, which can limit people with intolerances. However, with all of the variety, I’m positive that you will find something for you to enjoy.

One of my favorite sandwich shops is Even Stevens, it is about a ten minute walk from Boise High. Although delicious, the ordering process takes time.  This can be a bit nerve racking, but what I recommend doing is ordering online before lunch starts and picking it up right after walking there.

The food is good, but it’s a bit expensive. It can be around $10 for a sandwich, which makes it a treat instead of everyday lunch. My favorite thing at Even Stevens is their beer cheese and pretzel bread for only $5. Most of the sandwiches on the menu can be made gluten free and/or vegan so this is a great option for those who have dietary restrictions.

Another sandwich shop which I recommend is Zeppoles this restaurant is a bit simpler with items such as a chicken salad sandwich (my favorite), ham and cheese, and baguettes with brie cheese. These sandwiches are much cheaper and just as good.

It is much quicker as their sandwiches are already made, so there is usually enough time to get to Zeppoles and order without stressing about 5th period.

Albertsons has a really great selection, and with the pandemic, many of their self-serve options such as soup and fried chicken have closed. However, you can still order it from behind the counter by the deli section. They have a great display of prepackaged sandwiches and their non-traditional sushi is my go-to.

I dislike the walk to Albertsons as so many people walk there in herds, and this tends to turn me away from going to Albertsons quite often. However, the Starbucks that is located by the entrance of the grocery store often compels me to stop by during lunch.

Boise High is extremely lucky to be surrounded by such a plentiful food selection for all.
