With the holiday season upon us, radios begin to fill their queues with Christmas music and holiday cheer. Classics, covers, and remixes of songs are blasted from speakers world wide. Everyone has their favorite songs, whether it be the original or a version made by their favorite artist. Some are misses, but most are hits and make the season even merrier.

Most are familiar with modern takes on classics by artists like Maraih Carey, Arianna Grande, and Justin Bieber. For younger generations, and even older, these ones can be very appealing. The added pop and rhythm adds more cheer and pep into it, overall creating more Christmas spirit. Arianna Grande has a voice almost perfect for Christmas music. It is soft and light, fitting perfectly into the happy vibes Christmas music gives. Her songs like “Santa Tell Me” and “Last Christmas’’ are always good for upbeat moods. Even though Mariah Carey’s songs have only been around since the 90’s, it’s not Christmas without them. “All I Want for Christmas is You”, “Christmas”, and “Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town’’ are some that stand out. Carey adds her own spice and flavor into them, which is hard to recreate in other versions.                           Then, there are the older and more classic sounding albums. Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, and The Jackson 5 are responsible for creating timeless Christmas albums. All three of them bring different interpretations of some of the most beloved songs. Elvis Presley has so much soul and love in his voice that can easily be heard in his songs. Presley’s “Blue Christmas” might be one of the best covers of the song. His unique voice adds character to the song and you can feel the lyrics as if they are true. Frank Sinatra brings many amazing songs to the table. They feel like a 90’s Christmas movie and filled with the holiday spirit. “Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!”, “Jingle Bells”, and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” will always be favorites. The Jackson 5 Christmas songs are so amazing because of their young and cheerful voices. Their songs “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” and “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” are enhanced with the young and child-like tones the Jackson’s sing with.

Michael Bublé’s Christmas album also deserves a mention. He covered many songs including: “Santa Baby”, “Jingle Bells”, “Silent Night”, “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” and more. His albums are a good medium between older classics and newer remixes. His voice gives the feeling of older and throwback music. However, the instruments and melodies give the newer and more pop feeling. Together, this creates an amazing and must listen to album.

Christmas music is undeniably some of the best parts of the holiday season. Whether a music fan or Christmas lover, it brings cheer and happiness to anyone who adds it to their playlist. Good or bad, classic or cover, the Christmas season wouldn’t be the same without the songs and carols.
