Carlos Alcaraz’s Rise To The Top
October 24, 2022
The up and coming tennis star, Carlos Alcaraz, just became the No. 1 ranked men’s tennis player in the world. At only 19 years old, he won this year’s US Open tournament against Casper Ruud in the finals, hurtling from the 4th ranked position to 1st. With so many accomplishments at such a young age, he has taken the tennis world by storm.
Alcaraz impressively became a tennis pro in 2018, at age 15. Hastily, he climbed the rankings, and in 2021, after winning in Umag and reaching the quarter-final at the US Open he jumped from outside of the top 100 ranking, to the No. 32 position. Both are a huge deal for being only 18. The teenager was already making headlines on the news.
Following these major successes, Alcaraz continued to ascend up the tennis ladder. He reached the quarter-final of another Grand Slam, the 2022 French Open. As well, he won two ATP Masters 1000 tournaments (2022 Miami and 2022 Madrid). There are 9 of these tournaments per year, and only the best players on the tour can enter these. He became the 3rd youngest player to win an ATP Masters 1000 tournament, and the 2nd youngest player to win two. To top that off, he beat top players, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, in the Madrid Open.
Although Alcaraz’s past achievements are mind blowing, his actual tennis is even more mind blowing. One of the things that separates him from many of the other top players, is his insane speed when he gallops across the court, and he probably runs faster than a gazelle. On top of that, he pounds the ball with unfathomable power. Alcaraz doesn’t appear to have many flaws in his game, including the mental aspect. He is somebody who is very creative and super aggressive, searching for every opportunity to ‘kill’ his opponent. Beyond that, he also excels at finishing off points at the net. Everything about his game makes him fit to be the best tennis player in the world.
However, I believe that there are many top players who have the potential to overtake Alcaraz, like Jannik Sinner and some of the other brilliant Next Gen tennis players. I think that in the future Carlos Alcaraz will continue to win many Grand Slams, and it’s likely that he will continue to hold the No. 1 ranking many times throughout his career. I have faith he will become a tennis legend.
