On December 1st, John Woo’s “Silent Night” was released in theaters, and sadly it isn’t that popular. I went with my dad to go and see it. The theater was really small and barely anyone was there. It was just me, my dad, and one other person. It is clear to me that this movie is underrated.
This movie was surprisingly really good. It was packed with action and had almost no plot, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t good. It was intentionally bare bones, so much so that it didn’t have any dialogue whatsoever. The movie was short and exciting. The intro of this movie was great where it showed the main character Brian chasing after a car in slow motion. The driver of the dad killed his son. The actor who portrayed Brian was Joel Kinnaman who is famous for his role of Rick Flag Jr. in both Suicide Squad movies.
There are three notable acts in this movie: the intro, where it shows him grieving the death of his son; the second act, where it shows him training to fight and planning to get revenge; and the third act, where he infiltrates the main villain’s compound and finally gets revenge (and seemingly dies in the end and gets to see his son again).
One thing I found really heartwarming in this movie is that Brian’s son Taylor liked toy trains and train tracks. As a result, Brian brought a remote control train set to his son’s grave and built it around the tombstone.
One thing I thought was interesting about this movie was the fact that there was literally no dialogue whatsoever. I thought it was kinda cool how they communicated through facial expressions. Joel Kinnaman did a really good job of making the correct facial expressions. In my opinion, I think he is a really underrated actor and he needs to be in more projects.
I think I am going to give this Christmas movie an 8.5/10. It was short and sweet. The movie just started great, had tons of exciting scenes, and ended really well. I highly recommend seeing this movie if you want to watch a rated-R Christmas movie.
