For the past few issues of the newspaper, we have been using art from artists here in our student body. Although, in this issue of the newspaper, we decided to do something different and branch out, using a different type of art this time around: photography.
After reaching out to the Photography teacher, Ms. Rogers, she gave us a lot of amazing student submissions that we were able to choose from. It was a hard decision, but Brynn Dauby’s piece was chosen for this month’s newspaper cover. Brynn started taking photography during this year as a sophomore, and she has enjoyed the experience a lot so far.
She submitted a wonderful photo where all the colors and motion blend wonderfully. As stated by Brynn during an interview, she explained, “I had [to do] an art project for photography, so me and some of my friends went downtown to take the photos.” Brynn also brings attention the the fact that the photo was the result of a ‘slow shutter project’. When taking a picture with a slow shutter, it allows the photographer to gain a better and longer exposure, the amount of light that reaches the camera’s sensor, on the scene you are capturing. For instance, in this piece, it mades it a lot lighter in some places and darker in others.
Brynn was quite excited to hear that her submission had been chosen to take the place on the cover of Boise Highlights. When asked about what she plans to do after high school, Brynn states that she isn’t quite sure yet, but plans to do photography as a side job once out of Boise High.
So far, Brynn seems to enjoy photography to its fullest, and her current plan for the years following seems to be to continue this class throughout the rest of her time here at Boise High.
