Just recently on March 18th, Butch Wilmore and Suni WIlliams got brought back from space after 9 months. They made a hot entry in a SpaceX capsule and ended up off the Coast of Florida.
These two went to space for the first crewed flight of Boeing’s Starliner Spacecraft. They were also joined by two others who launched off in a separate spacecraft alongside them. Now, why were they up there for a total of nine months when they were actually only supposed to be up in space for 8 days? It turns out once they landed their spacecraft had some technical difficulties which dramatically extended their stay.
This majorly affected not only them but their family, friends, and everyday life. Once they landed and the world was informed about their landing they had to spend a few days in and out of hospitals to make sure they were healthy enough to return home. But once they got the all clear they could finally reunite with their families.
Suni Williams’ daughter said that once everyone found out about their landing, there was just a total energy shift. Everyone was in a better mood, and once she arrived back in Massachusetts it seemed to cure all!
Butch Wilmore’s wife and daughter were over the moon when he returned home. They had waited out all holidays, birthdays, and big milestones to celebrate with him, and to welcome him home! His wife Deana Wilmore said, “We had so many people tell us they were praying for it. So, we certainly appreciate all those because we know that the lord answers prayers and that he brought Crew 9 home safely, and those prayers definitely helped do the job.”
It was also controversial that Suni and Butch came back looking much more aged than they actually were. Being in low gravity drastically impacted their bodies. When they arrived back home many reporters made comments on how Suni had apparently “aged” and compared her to before she went up. Butch didn’t receive as much criticism which seemed to be unfair to Suni, but our astronauts are being revived to tip top shape.
After a crazy mishap ending up with an extra 9 months away from home and up in space. Suni and Butch have finally made it home, after being the first crewed flight of Boeing’s Starliner Spacecraft!
