I am sure you have heard about the Minecraft Movie, the new film breaking the box office, and based off of a video game called Minecraft. This movie has been highly anticipated and has gone through many different variations, originally planning on coming out in 2022, but was delayed due to creative differences. Many fans were worried about the inherent challenge of adapting a narrative free game with no fully direct objective, into a movie, and were disappointed at Hollywood hiring mostly A list actors for the film. Despite the early criticism, ‘A Minecraft Movie’ has been a smashing success.
Part of this success has to be attributed to Tiktok. Terms from the movie have already been turned into viral videos, and become integrated into our lives. Jack Black’s hilarious delivery of features in Minecraft, like “Chicken Jockey” or “Flint and Steel” has caused the internet to take off with memes.
In addition to Tiktok trends, one of the most exciting marketing strategies of the Minecraft movie has to be the exclusive limited time Minecraft themed happy meal. With a new ‘Nether sauce’ for the chicken nuggets, and exclusive toys, many people have flocked to their nearest McDonalds to pick up the new minecraft happy meal before the movie.
Throughout the movie the theater was filled with clapping after every iconic line, and the theatre actually felt alive. The Minecraft movie gave me a new hope for the movie industry. It was a nice surprise to enter the theatre and find all of the seats filled almost like how it was before COVID. There were long lines for concessions and the restroom throughout the movie. It was truly a unique movie experience, not just because of the crowd, but because the actual movie was interesting and didn’t take itself too seriously. It wasn’t the most well written or best looking but the movie was enjoyable, and was easy to follow with lots of funny moments.
I believe that this movie has relit the movie industry, and I highly advise you to go see the Minecraft movie for the same magical experience with friends and family while enjoying a blocky adventure.
