Podcasts: the New Frontier of Storytelling

A glimpse at the wide variety of podcasts out there.

Podcasts have taken the media by storm, offering a wide variety of entertainment and knowledge. Ranging anywhere from sports podcasts to podcasts on current events, there is definitely one out there for you. They are perfect for any place or time, just plug in your earbuds and press play. Here’s a glimpse at just some of the amazing podcasts out there.

Many influencers and social media figures have started to create podcasts as another outlet their fans can follow them on. Emma Chamberlain made the podcast Anything Goes, where she talks about the things going on in her life from the comfort of her bed, giving it a more genuine and natural feeling. The Sturniolo Triplets came out with a podcast called Cut the Cameras, where the three brothers talk about what it’s like behind the scenes of their videos, giving listeners a more real feel for what they are really like. Link Neal and Rhett McLaughin, creators of Good Mythical Morning, made the podcast Ear Biscuits, where they have more candid conversations about things that interest them. These are just examples of youtubers that have created podcasts as another platform for fans, but there are loads of others out there.

Many famous actors have also hopped on the podcast bandwagon. Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, co-stars from The Office, created the podcast Office Ladies to rewatch their favorite moments from the show. Dax Shepard started the podcast Armchair Expert, where he interviews other celebrities and explores what it’s like to be human. Lindsay Lohan even started a podcast called The Lohdown, where she gives listeners a guide to living life to the fullest.

True crime podcasts have also been on the rise in the past years and have caught a lot of people’s attention. From the creators of This American Life, Serial is a podcast that tells one true crime story over the course of a season. The podcast Morbid goes through horror stories throughout history told by Alaina Urquhart, an autopsy technician, and Ash Kelley, a hairdresser.

These are just a few of the many, many podcasts out there. And if there is a topic you are passionate about, there is definitely one out there for you.

Sienna Rock is a Senior at Boise High School. This is Sienna's third year as a Boise Highlights staff member and this is her second year as Editor-in-Chief. In her free time she enjoys playing volleyball, hanging out with friends, baking, and spending time with family. Sienna likes writing sports articles, editorials, and reviews. Newspaper is important to her because it gives her an opportunity to be involved in the community in a way that other classes and clubs can't. It also gives her a chance to have a leadership role at Boise High School. She is sad that this is her last year on staff, but is excited to leave her mark.
