There are many things wrong with social media. It’s a platform that has been a breeding ground for cyberbullying, misinformation, ideological polarization, addictions, and unrealistic body image standards. However, there are some parts of social media that exist simply to make us laugh or to keep us informed. You just have to know where to look. There are several fun student-run Instagram accounts at Boise High that serve just this purpose.
One of the most popular accounts at the moment is Bhs_hunger_games. It’s a pretty spontaneous account where any Boise High student can put their names into a Hunger Games draw. Each week, the individual who runs the account generates a script of a simulated Hunger Games tournament and each time someone comes out victorious. The Boise Highlights staff was incredibly proud of Zelda Fishman, who won the 6th BHS Hunger Games. This is possibly her greatest achievement to date.
Bhswherewereheaded2024 definitely takes the cake. This account takes the vital role of posting where Boise High Students will go after school, whether that be a college, gap year, the military, etc. The account will post information sent in from DMs. Already, a handful of students have posted about their future colleges. It feels like unwrapping a present every time this account creates a new post. This one cool kid already got into Yale!
Another entertaining account is bhs.d**khead_parking. Students can send in DMs of bad horrible situations. Whoever runs the account deserves an award, for their great post descriptions. This account is fun and stays away from actually harming individuals because cars are all kept anonymous. Sadly, the last post on the d**ckhead parking account was from October 31st. Perhaps people have significantly improved at parking recently, or the poster is on hiatus.
Bhs-firefits is another wonderful account. It currently appears to be discontinued given that the last post was on September 1st, but it was a pretty fire account. Anyone could send in pictures of students with awesome outfits, and they’d have their 10 seconds of glory. Our very own staff member and model, Eli Butler, is featured on the account twice.
Unfortunately, not all Instagram accounts are bringing positive change to the world. There are some accounts that post mean and insensitive things about students who attend the school. This should be considered bullying and is not cool at all. Students should consider following or even creating fun Instagram accounts that bring positivity to the community.
