One of the biggest movie debates ever: is Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” a Halloween movie or a Christmas movie? There are many arguments over this. People are divided into two groups: it’s a Halloween movie, or it’s a Christmas movie. The movie came out in 1993, so this debate has been going on for almost 30 YEARS! This debate needs to be settled once and for all.
It seems as though half of the world’s population people argue that this movie is a Halloween movie. They have numerous good arguments actually. One of the best ones is that it came out two days before Halloween. There are other good arguments as well. One of them being that it takes place in a Halloween town. The other is that it’s about Halloween-themed characters. Furthermore, the movie started with the characters celebrating a successful Halloween.
However, the other half of people (including my dad) claim that it is a Christmas movie. Those people have some good arguments as well. After all, the plot is about Halloween characters trying to take over Christmas, and it takes place in the season of Christmas.
There is a third party that says it is actually a Thanksgiving movie, because it takes place mostly in November, and because the holiday between Halloween and Christmas is Thanksgiving. However, there are not many other lines of reasoning for this theory.
This debate is similar to the “Is Die Hard a Christmas movie?” debate. I say that this is a Christmas movie because it takes place on Christmas Eve, and at the end, it shows the main character coming home to his wife and kids for Christmas. Therefore, Die Hard is a Christmas movie, but what about “The Nightmare Before Christmas?”
Well looking at all of this evidence, I think we can settle the beef once and for all. The answer to this question is that Nightmare Before Christmas is…both – a Christmas and a Halloween movie. It takes place in Halloween town and mostly has a spooky theme to it. But it also has many Christmas characters as well (like Santa). Both towns take place in this movie as well. Finally, this has settled the beef about whether this movie is a Halloween or Christmas movie.
