I’m basically on the national water polo team in Norway, even though I started like 2 years ago. Every time I tell people this, they get really shocked, and I would too. But it’s not that hard, especially for a girl who is almost too old to be on the junior team. It’s kinda funny now to think about when I started at water polo, and where I am now. I was not good at swimming at all, like embarrassingly bad.
I got into water polo by a friend who was swimming next to them while they were practicing, and it was just boys on the water polo team then. She got a lot of my friends together and we all started. The team is mixed, so both boys and girls who are born from 2010 to 2004, so it’s a lot of fun. But, it’s scary when you are guarding a big, tall guy who is 19 years old.
Because this sport is really small in Norway, we travel a lot around the country. Sometimes we drive and sometimes we fly. I remember one trip, it was the Norwegian championship for juniors and we slept in a school. As usual, it is kinda nasty, but also a lot of fun. It was only three girls teams and it was our first time playing against both, and we won. It was crazy, because we had only played for like 4-5 months and the other girls had played for 5 years. We also played with the younger boys team, and I think they came in second place, probably because we didn’t play that much with them.
I roomed with the guys and another girl. She is so annoying it’s unbelievable. There was one guy who was three years younger than me and they sat in another classroom and just talked. We looked at the time and realized that we should go to sleep. Responsible. When we walked down to the classroom an alarm went off. We ran as fast as we could to the classroom and our hearts were beating so fast. We never told anyone, so I guess it’s out now.
Anyway that is some of the fun we had on the team, and I hope it’ll be the same when I get back.
