What does it mean to be a genius? Is it to be the most inquisitive? The most empathetic? Or the youngest? Sheldon Cooper would tell you that it’s best to be the youngest. In the series Young Sheldon, which is based off The Big Bang Theory’s character of Sheldon Cooper, he’s portrayed throughout his childhood, growing up in small-town Texas. Not exactly an ideal place if one of your life goals is to win a Nobel Prize. I just finished the sixth season and safe to say the show was thought provoking.
The show details Sheldon and his twin, Missy; his brother, Georgie; his mom, Mary; and his dad, George. All characters have developed over the six seasons and their unique and quirky personalities shine through in whatever circumstance they find themselves in. Specifically, Sheldon attains much more maturity over the course of the show when he grows up and finds himself at college at the ripe young age of 11. I think the portrayal of finding his place in his intellectuality is super important to watch because he finds out that all problems can’t be solved by him: he needs help.
What I especially like about the show is that the episodes are short, 20 minutes each. This allows me to binge watch with ease! Most TV shows with little variation in character get repetitive over the seasons but Young Sheldon did not provoke that problem. They always have a new problem at hand and a new approach to it which keeps me engaged. The plot also doesn’t stop and start and stop and start with each episode. The problems of past episodes are mentioned in future episodes and it’s sequentially tied together very nicely.
I believe that the final season is going to be season seven, which is set to release on May 16, 2024. Color me ecstatic. I am beyond excited to explore the certain cliff hangers and loose ends we were left with at the end of season six.
In addition, a spin-off series has been ordered by CBS to include Mandy and Georgie as they traverse parenthood and their romantic relationship. I think that this dynamic has always been interesting because Georgie is my age and having a child with a women much older than he is. I think that the intended audience is able to recognize how chaotic and scary it would be to have a baby at this age and point in life when teenagers are still trying to figure out for themselves who they are and what they believe. Mandy and Georgie love each other and support each other which is the tying factor of why this show is able to keep the audience interested.
Young Sheldon is a good show for anyone of any age to watch. It has informative lessons about life, physiscs, Texas, God, and how to make the perfect brisket. It shows a realistic family dynamic that viewers can relate to and see themselves in the characters positions in life. At the end of the day, if Young Sheldon had 100 fans, I’d be one of them. If they had ten fans, I’d be one of them. If they had one fan, it would be me. If they had zero fans, I’d be dead.
