Each issue of Boise Highlights newspaper that comes out, a different student is featured as a cover artist. Sebastion Wojcik is a senior at our amazing school who created this week’s magnificent cover art. Sebastion gained his artistic prowess from “being involved in art since [he] can remember”. Five years in art classes at school, numerous art classes at Fort Boise, and most importantly, creating art for his family has given him practice in honing his abilities.
For this issue’s cover art, Sebastian expressed that the inspiration for his piece stemmed from a recent motivation to play the piano as he used to. “I love listening to pianists do what they do” he said, “and sometimes when I imagine them playing certain pieces, it’s like they have multiple hands. I wanted to visualize this in my own style.” Although Sebastion’s art is great, he is still trying to figure out for himself exactly what he likes to draw. To find inspiration and to create a process for himself, he has “been working on a theme about how certain activities and sports would look if they were done superhumanly, for this piece a person with multiple hands would likely be better at piano.”
Not only does Sebastion enjoy drawing, but he is well versed in a myriad of mediums. “My favorite thing about art is most definitely the amount of materials you could work in, there’s water based paint, oil paint, graphite, pen and I’ve discovered even more this year with yarn, sewing and design.” Whist he enjoys the variety and has never stuck to a single style, there is one medium that he enjoys most. “I’ve definitely slowly come around to acrylic paint, it’s been a difficult medium to work in but through some dedication and patience I’ve come around to work with the paint in a way that works more than trying to fight it,” Sebastian says.
Outside of his art, Sebastian enjoys things like cooking, crocheting, frisbee golfing, sewing, and of course kendamaing. He loves math, languages and government classes in school along with art, and being creative. As Sebastion looks towards his future he finds himself unsure. “I don’t really have Big dreams or aspirations for the future… but I’ve been wanting to find a place where I can work with people and express some creativity in my work.”
