For this edition’s cover art, an awesome artist, Michael Myers has his piece featured. Last year for the Boise High Summit, Michael made this piece to represent a shift in Boise High. “This piece was inspired by Boise High’s mascot change from arrow heads and feathers, to the Great Bison that used to roam the grassy hills of Boise. It was made to display our adoption of the mascot and its place in our present, future, and one day our past,” Michael tells me. Using previous headlines from the Boise Highlights newspaper, it seemed like the perfect candidate to kick off this year’s first edition.
Michael has taken an art class every year at Boise High, taking Drawing 1 and 2, Painting 1, and this year Drawing 3 and 4. “Ms. Thompson and Ms. Shanafelt are truly incredible teachers who have inspired creativity and growth within me,” Michael says.
He has always loved how he can decompress from other stresses at school and can end up making something unique in the process. “Drawing has taught me to be patient, work hard, and to never give up on your investment, because it just might work out.”
In addition to art, Michael has a passion for a wide range of things. At Boise High, he plays for the baseball team, and has verbally committed to play at Occidental College in Los Angeles. This year, he has loved Mr. Stan’s AP Economics class, and growing up he was always interested in econ. “Since I was a young kid, my dad would read the newspaper and talk about the stock market on Saturday mornings,” Michael told me, “I think that’s where my interest in economics came from. Michael is looking to major in Economics in college and has been considering minoring in Art and Art History.
