The Egyptian Theatre, a historical building with old and iconic art deco and a rich tradition, has been around for 97 years. Beginning as a silent picture house, in the 1930s it turned into the theatre we know it to be. Today, it still play films, and also holds concerts and performances, while still maintaining the charm of its past.
The Egyptian Theatre is in downtown Boise and is a notable attraction. It is a very iconic landmark known for its unique Egyptian hieroglyphics and ornate carvings. Throughout the year, the theatre showcases classic films while also having live performances and other events including film festivals, and community gatherings. The movies are chosen from recommendations from patrons and staff. Once a year, they play a silent film to commemorate its historical beginning as a silent picture house. The organ, which is usually hidden from view, is played during the silent film. They usually play the silent film around the date the theatre was opened, which was December 25th, 1927. During October there are a lot of films shown including a night of fun family Halloween movies like Hocus Pocus, and The Haunted Mansion. There is a night of fall thrillers or scary movies which includes The Shining and other similar type films. When it starts turning to winter, they start playing some holiday movies: Elf, White Christmas, and Home Alone. These are super fun movie nights to go to with friends and family during the Holiday season.
In addition to movies, the Egyptian hosts concerts Some of the upcoming performances include Walter Trout, a modern blue rock artist. LEONID & FRIENDS, who are a tribute to the music of Chicago. MANIA, an ABBA tribute, and many more artists are coming to Boise over the next few months.
