Each month, the Boise Highlights showcases the artistic talent of our student body, by featuring our thriving atmosphere of art on our cover. This edition’s cover features the work of Icarus Kapuscinski, whose piece uses dark, looming imagery; a stark and striking contrast to the season’s usual cheer.
Kapuscinski’s journey with art began at the age of seven and they’ve been honing it ever since. While they’ve completed a plethora of school art classes, from Drawing to Painting, much of their talent is self-taught. “I just like to have fun with my art,” Kapuscinski shared. Their current focus is Medieval armor.
Kapuscinski loves to work unique colors into their drawings, “Recently, my favorite colors are bright red and sickly green. I draw things that I find interesting.” Icarus similarly has a clear preference for medium: “I like charcoal and graphite the best, but oil pastels are not for me.”
Beyond art, Kapuscinski is a self-described nerd. They’re active in the Magic: The Gathering community and their passion led them to leave the swim team to dedicate more time to their art. And while art is their true calling, Kapuscinski’s favorite class might surprise you: “I love Practical Law with Mr. Bosquet. I’m not planning to go into law, it’s just really interesting!”
Looking ahead, Kapuscinski has ambitious plans to attend VIA University College in Denmark, one of the world’s top animation schools. The ultimate dream is to attend world-class classes on drawing comics, which is what Icarus wants to do for a living.
Kapuscinski’s work on this month’s cover art, as well as their individual art, shows their creativity and dedication. We can’t wait to see where their talents take them next.
