We in America are pretty lucky when it comes to signs of rebellion. However, there are many countries where protests aren’t allowed freely. But how long will we be able to use this constitutional right? It is a well-known fact that many politicians care more about power than its people. This has been the case since the beginning of time, it is sad but true. Another well-known fact is many of those power-hungry politicians want to silence the people and feed off of fear and silence of the people. That is why it is important to stand up for what you believe and make yourself heard, educated, and impossible to silence. So let me help you by teaching you some ways to rebel peacefully.
One very common and fairly well-known form of rebellion is as simple as wearing red lipstick. Yes, it’s as simple as that! The idea of this bright color becoming revolutionary came from the women’s suffrage movement on the early 1920s where women would march through the streets adorning the bright color. Then through the following decades, it became a beauty trend (one I think should come back) as a symbol of courage and overcoming hardships. Somewhere along the way it also came as a symbol of solidarity towards sexual assault victims.
Then again in the 1940s and during World War ll it was seen as anti-Nazi to the point that it was added to the USA women’s military uniform. Hitler was known to hate red lipstick and he even banned it along with excessive makeup. Red lipstick has begun to gain popularity in protest again in recent years with Roe v. Wade being overturned, red lipstick is a symbol of wanting equality and equity. However the psychology behind people not liking red lipstick is disturbing due to the fact we have these people in power all over the world. As I said in my opening, many politicians are power-hungry and care more about themselves than the good of their people. The psychology behind red lipstick is that it is a sign of confidence and boldness. It is depressing that the world has ever had politicians that hate to see women feeling confident and powerful. That just furthers enforces the point that many countries see women as inferior and weaker. When in actuality we are the only species where we see the women as inferior for example if someone was bit by a shark one wouldn’t dare say “I cant believe a girl shark just bit you” when you think about it like that it simply sounds stupid.
Another simple way to show rebellion peacefully is protests and walk outs. There are many nonprofits that set up protests and you can set up a walk out for something you believe. You have to talk to people who believe in the same thing (effective walkouts usually have 50-100 people or if it is in a workplace with less people around 80 percent is effective) make a post on social media to spread the word and let your boss or person in power how many people you have, why and when it will take place, remember it is your constitutional right to protest PEACEFULLY that is key violence will do nothing but get you in trouble with the law. These protests and walk outs are often times accompanied by signs that spread the message, often times these signs have funny sayings around 5 words or less, for example “F’ elon and the Felon” is a common sign i saw at the protests i attended this year.
Music has been a form of rebellion for decades, most often it is the punk style. A good classic rebellion song is american idiot by green day, a few newer songs are Its ok to punch nazis by cheap perfume and hostile government takeover. They get the message out peacefully and with a good beat. Music connects with a lot of people and gets out fairly acessably it is a very effective form of rebellion. However its a herder way to get the message out because there are so many music streaming services. However it dose easily put the message into other peoples minds.
Boycotts are another amazing way of rebellion, the best way to attack the people in power is to attack their wallets. These however work better if you have a lot of people on board much like the protests or walkouts. Boycotts are when many people stop using or buying from a company such as Amazon, Google, X (formally Twitter), or Tesla. People are currently boycotting many companies, due to their owners and beliefs, including Target, Walmart, amazon, google, tesla, Facebook, X, Starbucks, Nike, and many many more. There is also an “economic blackout day” on April 18th where people who support the movement against our current government are choosing to not spend any money that day to show our government that we the people have the control.
You can spread the word of rebellion through posters, stickers, and social media posts. Spreading posters and stickers around town brings many different people to those protests, boycotts or walkouts and brings attention to the issue. Rosie The Riveter is a very famous poster from world war two depicting a woman flexing and a speech bubble that says “We Can Do It!” This poster encouraged women to sign up for the military, and workforce. There are many instances of symbols that represent other movements.
