If you attended any of the boys or girls basketball games this season, you know that no matter what, there was never a dull moment between any of the teams. Every game our boise high basketball players put up a fight against any team, and they were very fun to watch.
The girls had a spectacular season, ending with them placing 2nd in the state. They made it to the Idaho 6A state championship and lost to Owyhee 38-33, ending their season with 20 wins and 3 losses. Even though they lost the championship, they got their fourth consecutive district title. During the state championship game against Owyhee, both teams had a very strong defense, which led to offensive struggles on both sides. These girls always put up a strong fight, coming so close to a championship. This season, there were many great rebounds performed by Kaity Haan and the top scorer of the game being Nya Pellantlatham, with 16 points. Katiy Haan played an amazing season with an average of 10.3 points per game. Her persistent achievements earned her the Treasure Valley Girls Basketball Player of the Week for February 17-23.
Another astonishing player is Avery Patricco, who significantly helped contribute to her team’s strong performance this season.
The boys also had an amazing season even though they didn’t start out with the best record. They came back and proved themselves, making it to the district championship. In conference, they had 4 wins and 7 losses with an overall of 11 wins and 13 losses. They ended with a 4-7 record in conference play, which placed them 10th out of 12 teams. BHS basketball fan Esther Wade, a sophomore, stated, “They did a great job and showed great sportsmanship even when other teams didn’t.” Even though they were ranked 10th out of 12, they pulled through during the district play-ins and continued to win, taking them to the district championship and earning them a spot in state. They unfortunately lost to Owyhee in the district championship game 51-56, but performed well above expectations. At state, the boys fought hard, beating Madison by 3, and having a heartbreaking loss to Lake City. In the end, the boys placed 5th in the state.
Both teams did their best, and even though some are going to graduate this spring, we are so excited to see what next season will bring us.
