I bet you over half the students here at school drink energy drinks. Could be a Redbull, Celsius, or even a different brand. But not many of these students are aware that these drinks are actually terrible for you. The tiny burst of energy is most definitely not worth the long term effects. I think that it’s important for students to know why they are so bad for you!
First of all they contain excess amounts of caffeine, sugar, and other terrible chemicals, which is a terrible way to start off your day. If you drink them long-term they can cause major heart issues because the caffeine raises your blood pressure higher than it should be. Drinking energy drinks can lead to major anxiety for you and your body, which can also lead to mental health issues. In the long term, these sugary drinks can actually cause type-2 diabetes. Are all of these effects worth a short few sips of enjoyment?
This is what a few of my friends personally think about energy drinks. Tara Roberts says that her favorite energy drinks are Red Bull and Celsius. She doesn’t just love that they give her energy; she also really enjoys the taste! I suggested to Tara some healthier alternatives, and she said that she would maybe consider trying them out. Lucy Miller says that she enjoys having one here and there, but it doesn’t have an effect on her, which is a good way to go about having them!
There are many alternatives to energy drinks that are much better for you! A few things to swap your energy drinks out for are teas, like green tea or herbal tea. Even though coffee does have a high-ish caffeine content, it’s much better for you than the overly processed energy drinks. Although it is better to steer off energy drinks, there are “healthier” options. Some options like ZOA and Zevia, as well as organic Yerba Mate, are popular.
Energy drinks are slowly hurting you and your body as you continue to drink them. So I suggest switching them out for some healthier alternatives, or drinking a better alternative!
