AP Art student Emma Long has been making art for as long as she can remember. She thoroughly enjoys working with oils, mixed media and especially watercolors which she used to paint the Cover piece, A Walk with Grandma. The watercolor represents how our childhoods can be a blur, memories pushing through, gaps of thought that seem to be missing a piece of its puzzle. The watercolor painting reflects a picture taken at her grandmother’s cabin in Lake Superior.
Taking around 2 weeks to complete the painting depicts a special time in Emma’s life and her family; it captures the memories and adventures of her time with the people she loves at the place she adores. Emma states, “I wanted to capture the memories that I had of exploring the forest with my grandmother and family.”
Emma’s passion for art comes from various museum visits and experiencing many different arrays of creation. Although, her love for art didn’t truly break through until high school where she dove into art classes and found her calling. What she learns deeply inspires her to create her own breathtaking creations. “I strive to create pieces that evoke emotion and that is interesting for me to paint,” expressed Emma. She is currently working on a series of paintings, including the Lake Superior watercolor, that capture “universal emotions and memories associated with being a kid.”
Emma’s love of art keeps her creating! She loves her masterpieces no matter what medium or subject. When asked what piece of hers she likes the most she exclaimed, “There’s many that I love, but it’s too hard to pick a favorite!”
Giving up is not an option for Emma. No matter what she wants to stick with her artwork maybe not full time but definitely as a hobby!
