Thursday March, 8th represents a momentous day for women all around the world. International Women’s Day is celebrated every year commemorating the hardships women endured in their journey to claim their well deserved rights.

Inspired by the #MeToo and he #enough movements, this years day from women has brought more pride than seen before.

A new movement has come into play called #PressForProgress which motivates people to unite, think, and act upon gender parity. Women want action!

An uproar of protests leak into the streets of Rome as men and women alike fight for equality in the workplace as well as bringing awareness to the sexual dynamics around the city.

Many other countries are dealing with similar ideals. Latin America is scraping away at the controversy of equal pay, while the Middle East raises awareness for child care and assistance for single mothers.

One of the largest backlahes of the day came from Spain and their feminist strike for workers. They’re marking International Women’s Day with protests targeted towards gender euality and equal opportunities in the workplace. The women of Spain have been urged to ditch work for the day as well as their domestic duties and rally for their rights as powerful individuals.

Many familiar names are rallying behind these movements to show support for the women who are living in lesser conditions.

Actress Penelope Cruz cancelled previously planned public events to rally behind and join the domestic strike or freedom.

Liam Payne took to twitter with a new playlist full of all female artists expressing his support for International Women’s Day. And of course the inspiring Michelle Obama tweeted, stressing the importance of empowering young women and girls in today’s society.

Now more than ever, International Women’s day is an inspiring time for women and men to fight for the changes needed in this world and as Hillary Clinton once said, “When there are no ceilings, the sky’s the limit. So let’s keep going — let’s keep going until every one of the 161 million women and girls across America has the opportunity she deserves to have.”

March 8th is a day to remember.
