Cover Artist- Iris Smith

Sophomore, Iris Smith created this beautiful piece to wonderfully represent our theme of new opportunities. By depicting a fork in the river Iris is portraying an opportunity to keep going down the path you were already on or choose a different route to go down. At the beginning of the drawing process, Iris first brainstormed different ideas before deciding to draw her diverging river concept. Between sketching out her piece and filling in her art, the drawing process overall took 3-4 days to complete. For Iris to have the opportunity to have her art piece on the cover of the newspaper, is a big deal for her as it allows her art to be displayed to a more vast audience. The individuality of art helps to have a platform to express herself  through something she is passionate about, which Is why Iris loves drawing. She hopes to continue art in the future saying “Arts hard to make a living off of creating art, but I still think I’m going to try it.” Iris is a very talented artist who helped us with are cover expressing her idea of “New Opportunities” Through this art hopefully she will pursue more of this drawing in the future.
