Yes, Global Warming is a Thing

As the weather around the globe gets warmer, skiing gets worse. Global warming is a real issue and is starting to affect many people and things all over the world. But more local ski hills near Boise like Bogus Basin, Brundage and Tamarack have all been affected. It’s pretty clear that as the years have gone on the snow worsens.

Sophomore Audrey Smith is a proficient skier who goes up to Bogus Basin pretty frequently. She stated that “Skiing is one of my favorite things to do and it’s just a bummer that the ski seasons gets worse and shorter every year.” Skiing seems to still be a pretty popular thing among Boise High students but it’s not what it used to be. While talking to James Faull (a student who is taking a year abroad) he seemed to think, “The way I think about global warming is pretty simple. I think about how my dad taught me to ski when  I was very young and if  I will ever get the privilege to do that for my own children. When I think about my children having to ski on artificial snow for their whole lives. It makes me furious. I feel like if everyone cared about skiing as much as myself and much of the skiing community, then we would reduce the the rate that the global climate is changing.”

This seems to be a pretty common feeling among students. Weather seems to be getting warmer year by year so artificial snow is necessary for skiing to be possible. It’s not the same skiing on ice and fake snow then pure powder. Skiers should make the most out of the snow that is present on the ski hills now because in the future all the snow will be is crystallized ice covering the mountains. Global warming is a real issue and there’s definitely something we can do about it. What we can do is ski as much as possible while the snow is still here. Enjoy it while it lasts because the luxury of skiing on fluffy real snow while soon fade. Not many believe global warming is really affecting anything or anywhere close to us but if it is affecting Boise citizens 20 miles away than its something that should really be taken into account.
