Every month, the Boise Highlights chooses a cover artist from our student body. Usually our staff remains on the inside of our newspaper, but this issue, one of our own is featured on the outside. Sydney Cayo is a senior and design editor for our paper, but this month, she is also our cover artist.

Her piece tackles this issue’s theme of “The Golden Age at Boise High”, and is beautifully crafted acrylic painting of flowers and eyes, drawn to represent the changes of April.

When asked about her inspiration for this art piece, Cayo answered, “I’ve been paying attention to what sort of things inspire me, what I find myself wanting to create, and what I have shown I’m good at. This piece is an eclectic composition of art styles I’ve found myself drawn to.”

Cayo admits that she’s “always been drawn to drawing and various kinds of art, but never admitted to using it as a form of expression until about a year ago.”

As for next year, she plans to attend Boise State and major in political science. She’s happy to have been a part of the Highlights staff for the last two years because of all the different types of people she’s met in the class. “We’re a little fondue pot of personalities melted together, especially this year, and even when I’m stressing over the deadlines, it’s still a space that I want to be a part of. I love being a part of my school in this way and I think it’s a great way to get to know the thousands of people here at Boise.”

We’re glad to have had Sydney as one of our staff members who contributes to making these past couple of years the true golden age of Boise High.
