Winter is here. Snow is falling and with that marks the return of numerous snow and ice-themed activities anyone can enjoy. From the slopes to the rinks, there are a great deal of ways for people to occupy their time during this season.

With the recent opening of multiple ski resorts in Idaho, skiers and snowboarders alike are going back to the mountains to glide across fresh layers of snow. There are many different slopes and Nordic skiing trails to choose from, located at Bogus Basin, Brundage Mountain, and Tamarack Resort.

Sledding is another fun activity that anybody can participate in, at any given hill with snow and a sled. One popular location is at Simplot Hill. However, it is important to be cautious, as there is a road at the bottom of the hill. There are also places at Bogus Basin and Brundage Mountain specifically designed for sledding.

Whether you’re playing hockey, figure skating, or just looking for more winter pastimes, ice skating rinks are also a great way to pass time. Idaho Ice World houses the most prominent rinks in Boise. With two ice rinks as well as an arcade, there’s a little something for everyone. In McCall, there is also the Manchester Ice Rink and Events Center. At this rink they have a fun ice-themed equivalent to bumper cars.

Although it’s much more challenging than standard hiking (due in part to the difficulty of staying on top of the snow), there are many fun snowshoeing trails throughout Idaho, including reputable trails at both Bogus Basin and Brundage Mountain.

If you’re ever bored at home, remember that there are plenty of opportunities throughout Boise and the rest of Idaho to have some winter fun. With skiing, snowboarding, sledding, ice skating, and snowshoeing, there are many ways to spend your time in this snow-enclosed season.
