Fall Out Boy is back with a new upcoming album! So Much (For) Stardust was announced to be released on March 24th, as the band’s eighth studio album. After mixed reviews on their 2018 album, M A  N   I    A, the band fell silent with no word on any future projects.

Oli Sykes, the lead singer of Bring Me The Horizon, posted on his Instagram story that he had been mailed a package from Fall Out Boy that contained a pink seashell labeled “1 of 13” along with the date January 18th and the phrase “Love From The Other Side”.

Additionally, in mid-December, the band began mailing fans postcards that read on the front “Greetings from: Pink Shell Beach” and included on the back “I saw you in a bright clear field. Hurricane heat in my head. The kind of pain you feel to get good in the end. Inscribed like stone and faded by the rain: ‘Give up what you love give up what you love before it does you in…’”

The first single released from the album, “Love From the Other Side”, treated fans to not only a music video, but also the announcement of the upcoming album and a tour. “Love From the Other Side” also reached the No. 1 spot on Mediabase and Billboard Alternative Airplay’s charts, marking Fall Out Boy’s first No. 1 song. On the same day that the single was released, lead guitarist Joe Trohman stated on Instagram that he would be taking a break from the band to focus on his mental health with the intent to return at a later date.

“Without divulging all the details, I must disclose that my mental health has rapidly deteriorated over the past several years.” Trohman explained in his post. “So, to avoid fading away and never returning, I will be taking a break from work, which regrettably includes stepping away from Fall Out Boy for a spell.” He stated that he would “absolutely, one-hundred percent” be returning once he recovered, and thanked his bandmates and family for the understanding and support he received with his decision. The band played the single on Jimmy Kimmel Live! the same day it was released, playing without Trohman for the first time ever.

While discussing the album, lead singer Patrick Stump described it as being lovingly and carefully crafted “like someone cooked you a delicate meal”. He further explained, saying “I’m not a very proud guy, but I’m pretty proud of this record.”

The band posted a photo of another package with a set of coordinates that led to the “Field of Dreams”, a filming site in Iowa. The package contained another seashell marked “2 of 13”. Days later, Fall Out Boy released their second single, “Heartbreak Feels So Good”.

The band released an announcement for their first solo-headlining tour since 2019, officially being called the So Much For (Tour) Dust Tour. Fall Out Boy will be joined on tour by Bring Me the Horizon, Alkaline Trio, New Found Glory, Four Year Strong, The Academy Is…, Royal & the Serpent, Games We , Daisy Grenade, and Carr. On March 3rd, the track listing was officially announced on their Instagram. With the album being released on March 24, the last Friday of Spring Break, Boise High Students should consider listening to Fall Out Boy’s lovingly crafted creation.
